Can Democracy Survive Free Speech?
in Politics
I’ll humbly say I’m no Constitutional scholar nor have I majored in Political Science, but from my Everywoman’s seat on my barcalounger, I’m just going to ask the quiet part out loud: Can Democracy survive the current state of Free Speech provided for in the 1st and 14th Amendments? If we allow disinformation and misinformation, lies and distortions can we ever restore equiibrium to society?

Remaking the Space Between Us: Diana McLain Smith
in Politics
We boomers came of age during the sixties when our country seemed torn apart. Divisive rhetoric, social unrest and violent protests were fueled by issues surrounding the Vietnam War and the fight for civil rights. And, somehow, we now find ourselves and our society dealing with similarly contentious and divisive issues. In fact, it seems that our political divisions might, once again, serve to tear our country apart.
Yet thankfully, today’s guest brings an approach to working together and understanding one another’s views that is both doable and optimistic. Diana Mclain Smith has spent over 35+ years helping organizations transform intergroup conflict into a powerful force for change. From Fortune 500 companies to cutting edge nonprofits, Diana has created positive change through her groundbreaking approach she terms, “Leading Through Relationships.” This approach has now been used by thousands of teams and organizations around the world. Diana is also the author of three books and coauthor of another and has served as an advisor to the Harvard Negotiation Project and the Rebuild Congress Initiative.
She joins us to share all about her newly released, timely and important new book, Remaking the Space Between Us. If you care about the election and the future of our country, you won’t want to miss this thought-provoking discussion.

About Politics
A taboo topic for the dinner table and social gatherings, politics both unite and divide our world. Especially every four years. BlogTalkRadio's Election coverage is vast, varied and accurate: We know it's not always the pundits with the best insight on today's political climate; our hosts represent the voice of the people, by the people, for the people. Whether you fall on the Conservative end of the spectrum, the Progressive, are moderate or somewhere on the many shades in between, you'll find plenty of commiseration with those who share your views, some of which are famous dignitaries like Michelle Obama and Kofi Annan, or famous actors, authors, news reporters, TV personalities, even comedians. The best part? If you've got something to say, you can start your own show! Go on, hop up on that soapbox and have at it – speak your mind, rant, rave and filibuster to your heart's content.
