This Sunday, I will be talking about one of the largest natural gas suppliers in the USA---Spire. Here in Missouri, we have a problem that other states will face soon enough, namely how Spire is using a foul scare tactic in order to get a pipeline in business. Spire executives sent an email to customers November 4, warning of possible gas shortages and OUTAGES, heading into the dangerous Winter months. Missouri could face those outages as soon as December 13. To make matters worse, Spire has no contingency plan, other than a 10-day emergency supply which would run out just before Christmas. Now, Missouri Winters can dip into sub-arctic conditions, but Spire didn't care enough to have a plan B. 

This started with a new pipeline which began construction in 2019. The FERC commission gave the green light in 2018, so Spire has had PLENTY of time to ensure an alternative means of securing heating gas. Recently, Spire lost in court to the EDF, so they sent the email threatening customers weeks before our Winter begins in full swing. 

Spire's bottom line--either they get the pipeline, or we don't supply heating gas. Spire had a legal obligation to provide an emergency method of bringing gas into homes. They failed.
