Tonight, post-election--I will discuss the deleterious effects that 'horserace reporting' or 'horserace journalism' has on elections--and on democracy itself. Though this is a show dedicated to environmental justice issues; there can be no justice if the journalism of the day cheapens itself by providing a handicapping scorecard for the high stakes rollers of the political class. While the gambling shamans such as dual sports and political commentator Nate Silver build careers off this horserace mentality; the public is simultaneously denied substantive coverage of pressing issues.
This political horserace reporting has been basically replacing that necessary substantive coverage of important issues since the 1970's and the GOP comeback featuring an entire coterie of (what is in my opinion)--liars and useful idiots, culminating in the tragic elevation of Donald Trump. A Trump presidency could not have occurred without such horserace reporting replacing actual journalism. Please tune in.
