The Environmental Justice Report with Jeanine Molloff

Tonight we will begin with our series on Environmental Racism. Over the years it has become increasingly clear that communities of color and lower income groups suffer the brunt of the most egregious pollution. Whether it be the area of Louisiana also known as 'Cancer Alley', or various zip codes in St. Louis, Missouri recording the highest levels of childhood lead poisoning in the nation; communities of color (which are also often lower-income), suffer the worst outcomes. This injustice cannot be allowed to stand. Not only do various industries pollute these communities mercilessly--but those same industries work to eradicate any meaningful environmental regulations through dark lobby groups like the American Legislative Exchange Council aka ALEC. Through groups like ALEC, (who has been accused of 'ghost-writing' the law); state legislatures sign away the rights of the people to breathe clean air and drink safe water. These groups push 'laws' that increasingly criminalize protected 1st amendment activities. 

Tonight we will examine a few of these cases as we begin this mini-series on Environmental Racism.
