Join us on Wednesday, December 4 @ 6pm EST for an exciting conversation with professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, Elizabeth Klerman to discuss her research on the impact of humans being awake after midnight. Dr. Klerman’s research focuses on applying circadian and sleep research principles to human physiology and pathophysiology. She also uses mathematical analysis and modeling to study human circadian, sleep, and objective neurobehavioral performance and subjective (self-reported) mood and alertness rhythms.

A Chat in the Garden with Monique A. J. Smith
Brittany is a native of East St. Louis, IL and played volleyball and basketball in high school. She attended Kentucky State University (KSU) on a full athletic scholarship, playing women’s volleyball and track & field. She helped lead her KSU team to back to back women's volleyball conference championships, was named setter of the year three times in the SIAC Conference, and Female Athlete of the Year her Freshman year.
After graduating from KSU, Brittany worked in St. Louis Public Schools for five years. Later, she became a mental health caseworker/counselor. She started at Harris-Stowe State University in 2018 as the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach. In 2021, she was named Senior Women Leader for Athletics. A year later, she was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director and Programming. Currently, she is serving as the Interim Athletic Director and Head Women’s Volleyball Coach.
While at Harris-Stowe, Brittany was named Coach of the Year in 2018 & 2022 and named American Midwest Conference Coach of the Year in 2023. She is on the Board of Athletic Administrators for the American Midwest Conference and the Development Committee for Harris-Stowe's Foundation. She received her Master’s in Nonprofit Leadership from Webster University and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Higher Education.
