TOPIC: "Animal cruelty, proactive enforcement and the SPCA's role"

The Putnam County SPCA is a New York State certified law enforcement agency, given full "police powers" to enforce all the laws of New York State, specifically those that pertain to animals.

Responsibilities include enforcing animal cruelty laws, housing animals we seize from unfit living conditions, providing essential medical care, and educating the community on how to treat animals humanely.

Investigating cases of suspected animal cruelty and, because the officers have “police powers,” they also address any existing links between animal cruelty and child abuse, elder abuse, domestic violence, and human suffering of all kinds.

                                                            Together, we can make our communities safer.
