TOPIC: Animal Abuse and Domestic Violence - How the Court System handles it
In April 2011 a dog named Desmond, a beautiful boxer/pit bull mix, was adopted from a shelter in New Haven, CT
March 11, 2012. Desmond’s body is found in a trash bag in the woods. He is emaciated. He is bruised. He is dead. On March 15, 2012, a necropsy reveals that Desmond’s stomach was empty except for fragments of plastic, gauze and fabric. He had broken teeth and hemorrhages on his stomach, ribs, and head. This group, led by a former volunteer shelter worker, Micah, who had been Desmond’s caretaker, formed what was then known as “Justice For Desmond”.
Desmond’s body was found having been brutally murdered by his adoptor and was arrested and confessed to the killing in May 2012.
Desmond's Army seek to raise public awareness regarding laws as they relate to animals and the statistical connection between animal abuse and domestic violence
“Desmond's Law” – Public Act 16-30 enacted into law on October 1, 2016.
