Chicago Teachers Union Local 1 issued a list of demands late Thursday, December 30th, 2021, telling Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot that their concerns should be addressed prior to students’ return to in-person learning — which is scheduled to happen this coming Monday, January 3rd, 2022. The day after Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty in five of the six sex trafficking counts, federal prosecutors announced they had filed notice in Manhattan federal court that they were dropping their criminal case against two Manhattan Bureau of Prisons jail guards who were supposed to guard Jeffrey Epstein the night he reportedly killed himself. Dr. Anthony Fauci provided some insight regarding the accuracy of metrics used for counting positive COVID-19 cases in children. Fauci told MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin that since all children are tested for COVID-19 when they enter a hospital, regardless of the reason they are there, that many children are hospitalized “with COVID” rather than “because of COVID.” Arlington County, Virginia, recently introduced a proposal for a new grading system, based on the idea of equity, that would allow an unlimited number of retakes on assignments, ban extra credit, and would block grading on homework assignments.
