Vatican II, church resistance & social activism; government free action

Jane Hoffman will discuss the 50th anniversary she attended in Milwaukee  this weekend commemorating the Milwaukee 14.  It was a group of 14 men who raided the Brumder building 9/24/68 and burned 10,000 1A draft files and then spent one year in prison.  Four of the survivors were present at the weekend event:  Michael Cullen (founder of the Casa Maria house & soul of the Catholic Worker movement), Doug Marvy of Houston who helped organize the draft raid, Jim Forest (via Skype in Holland) in charge of the International Peace Fellowship and world renown writer, Fred Ojile (now an attorney in Minneapolis), Bob Graf (a community activist & still an anti war/anti drone activist).  It was a fantastic gathering of many people including Don Timmerman, former Father Bill Sell, John Hagedorn, extended Cullen family, Jennie Orvino and many more participants.  

We will parallel this era with the climate of the country today.  We will also talk about how radical factions of the Catholic church were involved in social justice issues and some still are.  We reflect on the changes of the Vatican II of 1959-1965.  We had a glitch at the beginning of the show, please fast forward to about the 15 minute mark.
