Mary Edwards joins Glenn to discuss Composing Sound & More S7 EP5

    in Environment

Mary Edwards is a composer and environmental sound artist whose interdisciplinary practice encompasses themes of temporality, impermanence, nostalgia and the natural world that recur throughout her work. She is interested in the invisible architecture and the emotive, historic, cinematic and spatial properties of sound. Listening is an inherent and integral part of her process in conveying how all sounds have the potential to be habitable, and can be transformative once you get inside them, as they are simultaneously intimate and immense. Throughout 2023, Mary Edwards' current work-in-progress, "Everywhere We Are is the Farthest Place," has been performed and installed in several iterations at Spitsbergen Artist Gallery/Svalbard, Open Source Gallery/Brooklyn, Epsilon Spires/Vermont and the Beyond Listening International Symposium on Sonic Ecologies/Budapest.
Drawing partly on sound as a vibrational phenomenon and Space Analogues, this immersive compositional soundscape with cinematic audio, is, according to Edwards, “an ode rather than an elegy” to the transforming Arctic landscape, climate vulnerability, elemental sensuality and terrestrial/space connectivity.

Dr. Melinda Thacker a coach for surgeons

    in Medicine

    Youtube https://youtu.be/BepLMqM6J5w
Meet Mel-https://www.melthackercoaching.com The Power of Belief When I was 13 years old, I decided I was going to become a surgeon. I knew it with such conviction that there was no other option for me but to take action to realize that dream. Despite having no exposure to the medical field, despite growing up in poverty reliant on food stamps and government assistance, despite finding myself temporarily homeless at age sixteen--despite all these seemingly insurmountable obstacles--I made it happen. Because the only things that mattered were my DESIRE and my BELIEF. I desired to become a surgeon, and I believed I could achieve that goal. Everything else was just drama and obstacles. For the first 7 years of my career I thought I was okay, but I wasn't. Burnout is an insidious thing, and surgeons are trained to tolerate prolonged discomfort. Part of the problem was that I hadn't defined “success” for myself. My automatic brain told me I should be satisfied with performing surgeries, taking care of patients, making money, and just getting through the grind until retirement, but my essential self completely disagreed. There had to be more to life as a working surgeon. It felt like I was trapped in a career I didn't sign up for. So I distracted myself with overworking and false pleasures. I people pleased and overachieved and sought external validation, but at the end of the day I just felt deeply and profoundly EMPTY. It was exhausting. Eventually something had to give. I couldn’t be everything to everyone and nothing to myself. Who was my true self anyway? I had been trained to ignore my mind and body for so long that my real identity was a mystery to me.

Way of Healing Avoiding Double-Mindedness: The Importance of Renewing Our Mind

    in Psychology

Hello everyone welcome to Reaching Out Radio International, we are a ministry team working in love and unity in one mind one accord as the body of Christ sharing the Gospel into the world.
If you’ve ever wrestled with your thought patterns or belief systems, and desire to learn to avoid the pitfalls of being double-minded, this broadcast will help you address these very important issues. God's Word tells us that "A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways." ~ James 1:8. How we think leads to how we feel, which in turn leads to what we do. I will break down and explain what it means to be double-minded according to Scripture, along with describing the concept of mind renewal. We'll then look at how, through the Lord’s help as we allow Him to lead us in examining and processing our thoughts according to the truth of His Word, we can be of sound mind, and truly 'have the mind of Christ' (1 Corinthians 2:16)!
We thank you for listening for your continued prayers and support as we share the Gospel into the world. God Bless You!!
