Are HBCUs Still Necessary?

Now that AFRICAN-AMERICANS are widely accepted at PREDOMINATELY WHITE INSTITUTIONS (PWI) of higher learning there are many Americans who feel it is no longer necessary for HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES & UNIVERISITIES (HBCU) to exist. Special guests DR. DELARIOUS STEWART, an alumnus of SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY & DR. STEPHANIE MILE-RICHARDSON, an alumnus of GRAMBLING STATE UNIVERSITY and current professor at MOREHOUSE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE join us to discuss the viability of HBCUs in 2019.  Some of our HBCUs contend with fiscal sustainability, because most don't have the large financial endowments, like some of their PWI counterparts; but, instead rely on aid from the federal government. Despite never attending one herself, BEYONCE recently released her concert film, HOMECOMING, highlighting the HBCU experience in her performance. Is BEYONCE's film the shot in the arm HBCUs need to encourage more AFRICAN-AMERICAN students to attend, as well as receive more financial support from the BLACK COMMUNITY? Should more HBCUs be open to merging with PWIs whenever it makes fiscal sense, or does their historical significance outweigh this consideration?
