Dave Street is a playwright, lyrcisit and performer. He has written many songs, plays, scripts and stories, and once had his own punk theater company downtown in NYC and even did a stint as a punk stand-up comedian (opening for the Ramones). Today, he is most known for his more current work as an award-winning children’s educational performer, having presented his own shows at schools around the country for almost fifteen years. He’s the author of two acclaimed cutting edge children’s environmental books, How the Land of Litter Became the Kingdom of Clean and Let’s Slam Dunk the Junk, has a masters’ degree in education from Rutgers University and is the emcee of EcoFest, New York City’s environmental festival. Additionally, he has a non profit organization D STREET OUTREACH PROGRAMS INC., which develops materials to encourage positive behavior in at-risk teenagers. He has also written a number of recorded song lyrics, most notably for the legendary punk band the Undead (in collaboration with ex-Misfits lead guitarist Bobby Steele). He’s also currently working on a monster movie/graphic novel project Monsters ‘R’ Us. ‘The Problem’ is his return to conventional theater, combining the angst of his punk roots with a mellowness that reflects his doing theater for kids, and makes his new writing accessible to a new generation and a mainstream audience.
