Monica Chapman was born in Romania and came to Canada with her family at the age of nine. At this time, she began to intensely study piano. As a highly educated and bright woman, Monica completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree from York University as well as attained her degree in piano performance (A.R.C.T.) and voice at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto. Her early interest in musical theatre led to a role with the Toronto Operetta Theatre Company in their production of The Widow in 2004 performed at the St. Lawrence Centre in Toronto and conducted by Guilermo Silva-Marin. Monica also appeared in several musical variety productions at the Grand Theatre in Fergus, Capitol Theatre in Port Hope and Victoria Hall in Cobourg. In 2004, she recorded an album titled 'Sincerely,' featuring Broadway show tunes. From classical music to musical theatre, Monica has evolved into a jazz performer over the past five years. She has made appearances at jazz venues throughout Toronto and beyond. Additionally, Monica has been backed by talented musicians whom she thanks immensely including, but not limited to, Norm Amadio, Tony Quarrington, Jordan Klapman, Jack Zorawski, Glenn Anderson and Igor Babich. Her inspirtations include such such jazz legends as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Cleo Laine, but makes the music you are about to hear very much her own. Her debut album is titled 'Heart's Desire' and is available on all major digital distribution sites including CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon Music and more.
