A Republic is a form of government in which people extend the power of their collective rights through elected representation. There is a basic expectation of genuine respect for the will and interest of the people on part of the chosen representative, benefiting from their trust. Former United States President, Theodore Roosevelt referred to the latter relationship in his 1910 speech entitled “Citizenship in a Republic”. He discussed the courage needed to be a proactive member of a political community.
The most notable passage of the speech mentioned The Man in The Arena. To make a long story short, the most important thing about the “arena” is not how you enter it, but rather trying to be there.
