The Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County’s Charter was voted into existence on June 28, 1962. It was a result of the desire to combine two competing governments (Nashville and Davidson County) into one. The intent was to better serve the people. In 2019, the question of “Equity” for Nashville residents is related to a massive growth pattern that is directly linked to government policy and distribution of resources. In the presence of a major economic growth spurt (“TIDE”) too many residents struggle to live in Nashville. As we consider seating a new county administration on August 1, 2019, perhaps the most important question for voters is “How do we bring equity to all Nashvillians”?
